Teesside Sling library is a baby-wearing sling library and consultancy. We are dedicated to helping you find the right sling or carrier to carry your child safely and comfortably. Here you will find a complete inventory of all our baby carriers, wraps and accessories which are available for you to hire. 

We are all volunteers so please be patient as we organise your hire or consultation. The library offers a service that costs money - carriers, training, venues and expenses - so we charge for hires and consultations to cover these costs. Our time is also very valuable to us as we all have families and jobs, so please turn up to any appointments you make as volunteers will have set aside time to dedicate to you and your needs. 

Hiring a carrier

Sling meets Please come along to a sling meet if possible, Our current sling meet is held at the Oakwood Cafe in Eaglescliffe on the first Tuesday of the month between 11am&1pm

Pick-ups We are still able to offer pick-ups from several location across Teesside. Contact our facebook page or email us to arrange.

Safety All our carriers are washed after every hire, so you don't need to. Once they have dried we quarantine them for 72 hours before hiring them out again. Volunteers wash their hands before bagging each carrier without touching the carrier itself, so we suggest you sanitise or wash your hands after touching the bag. You may wash your carrier while it is in your care, but we recommend that carriers are spot cleaned and treated more like coats than items of clothing because the washing process does damage carriers. Please see our terms and conditions for liabilities while you have the carrier.

Hiring

1. Contact us or come to a sling meet. You can get in touch via our Facebook page Teesside Sling Library or Instagram (We are having a few problems accessing our Instagram message box). Alternatively you may contact us via email on Teessideslinglibrary@gmail.com

2. Find your carrier. Let us know what you need help with. Perhaps you need a particular option, like back carrying, forward facing or newborn carriers or there is something you've seen or heard about that you'd like to try. Tell us how old your baby is or if you or your baby have any special needs. We will work with you to find something suitable for both you and your baby. We offer a range of deals to help you find your perfect carrier. See below for prices.

3. Set up an account. Please create an account and add your card details (found under ‘payment methods’) to our secure Stripe system. This means we don't have to charge you a deposit to hire your carrier. You may pay by cash, PayPal or card for your hire.

4. Come to a sling meet or arrange a pick up location and time. We have pick-up locations in Redcar, central Stockton and Nunthorpe. We are all volunteers so please bear with us while we arrange your hire. This may mean getting the carrier to your preferred location or working round our own families, school and work. 

5. Collect your carrier. Our volunteers will check-out your carrier and take payment when you pick up. If you need a demo please let us know.

6. Check your hire email. Your hire email contains important information regarding your hire. It has a link to the carrier instructions, important safety information, details of when the carrier is due back and discount codes for various online retailers who may stock your carrier. 

7. Return or rehire. Two days before your carrier is due back, you will get an automatic email to remind you. You may contact us to arrange a rehire or return. We have a parcel box at with our Nunthorpe volunteer which means you can post or return at anytime without prior arrangement. If you wish to drop off in Redcar or Stockton please let us know so we can make you an appointment. 

Carrier hire price list

All carrier hires include free advice, demonstration and fitting. Demonstration and fitting can be arranged at pick up or drop off with socially distanced protocols, or can be done via online platforms after you have the carrier. 

Standard hires

Standard Baby or Toddler Carrier Hire £15 4 week hire of any full buckle carrier, woven wrap, meh dai, Onbuhimo or ring sling. 

Standard Twingo Carrier Hire £20 4 week hire of our Twingo carrier for two children of similar ages.

Standard Newborn Stretchy Wrap Hire £10 4 week hire of any stretchy wrap or hybrid stretchy carrier (Close Caboo).

Long-Term Deals

Long-term hire on Newborn Carriers £20 12 week hire of any stretchy wrap or hybrid stretchy carrier (Close Caboo).

Long-term Hire on Baby & Toddler Carriers £30 12 week hire of any full buckle carrier, woven wrap, meh dai, Onbuhimo or ring sling. 

Long-term Hire on Twin Carriers £40 12 week hire of the Twingo carrier for two children of similar ages.

Free Swaps £0 Free swaps are available during your hire period for carriers in the same price bracket.

Free 4 Week Stretchy Deal £0 Free stretchy wrap hire for the first 4 weeks if your baby is under 12 weeks old.

Double Covid-19 Offer £15 2 week hire of any two carriers so you can compare.

Late Returns

Late returns 70p per day. These are waived if you rehire for the month or at our discretion.

Services Price List

Some of our services have been suspended during the Covid-19 pandemic. We are offering online consultations at a reduced price and home consultations while local lockdown rules allow. All services must be paid for at the time of booking and are non-refundable with less than 24 hours notice of cancellation.

An online carrying consultation with either your own carrier or one of our carriers. Two weeks sling hire is included and pick up is available at locations across Teesside. Alternatively you may hire two carriers for 1 week.

Online fit check with your own carrier, 15 minutes £7.50

A comprehensive one-to-one baby carrying consultation. This service is held in your own house and may include fuel costs. Includes 2 weeks sling hire.

Sling Pick Up, Drop off & Delivery

Sling pick up £5 cancellation fee Due to several people not showing up for their appointments, pick up from a volunteer’s house, with or without a short demonstration will now be £5 if cancelled with less than 24 hours notice. 

FREE Sling drop off £0 Out of hours drop off at 16 Allerton Park, Nunthorpe, Middlesbrough, TS7 0LW is free using our parcel box. Sling drop off at Stockton & Redcar please contact us to arrange.

Delivery £variable Under certain circumstances we may be able to deliver to some TS postcodes. Prices for delivery will depend on the postcode and will be charged at 45p per mile from TS7.
